The laboratory is integrated with the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/nau.edu\/ses\/amino-acid-geochronology-laboratory\/\">Amino Acid Geochronology Laboratory<\/a>, and affiliated with other analytical labs at NAU and other universities.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><strong><span style=\"color: #333399;\">We specialize in analyzing sedimentary:<\/span><br \/>\n<\/strong>\u00b7 Biogenic-silica content (wet-alkaline extraction)<br \/>\n\u00b7 Pigment (chlorophyll) content (Specim hyperspectral core scanner)<br \/>\n\u00b7 Particle-size distribution (Coulter LS13-320 laser diffraction)<br \/>\n\u00b7 Magnetic susceptibility (Bartington MS2 system)<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">\n<strong><span style=\"color: #333399;\">We prepare samples for radiocarbon dating at NAU&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/in.nau.edu\/aceisotopelab\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">ACE Isotope Lab<\/a>:<\/span><br \/>\n<\/strong>\u00b7 Acid-base-acid treatment of vegetation macrofossils<br \/>\n\u00b7 AMS analysis of small carbonate samples using the gas source of the MICADAS<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #333399;\"><strong>Opportunities <\/strong><\/span>are available for students to work and conduct supervised research in the laboratory.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Sedimentary Records of Environmental Change Laboratory analyzes physical, biological, and isotopic properties of sediment from lakes and other depositional settings to interpret past environmental and climate changes, and to provide age control.
